Can I get vaginoplasty?
If you have a loose vagina caused by childbirth or aging and are experiencing a lack of sexual sensation and/or urinary incontinence, then vaginoplasty may be suitable for you.
How long after giving birth must you wait before having vaginal rejuvenation surgery?
Understanding that the vagina changes with every childbirth, it is best to wait until you have completed your family before having vaginoplasty. If you decide you want more kids after your vaginal rejuvenation surgery, you will most likely significantly change your results unless you have a Caesarean section birth. However, if your family is complete and you want to increase your sexual satisfaction, you must wait at least three months after vaginal delivery before having vaginoplasty done. This gives Dr. Judah an opportunity to give you the best possible results with your fully healed tissues.
What's the difference between labiaplasty and vaginooplasty?
Labiaplasty is for the lips of the vulva, also known as the labia minora. Vaginoplasty, or vaginal tightening, tightens the vagina and doesn’t treat the labia in any way. It is common for these procedures to be performed in a single surgery, along with other procedures like breast augmentation. Combining vaginoplasty with another procedure can be your mommy makeover.
When will I see my results?
Generally, you’ll be able to see and feel the full results of your surgery in about 4-6 months.
Will vaginal rejuvenation surgery improve my sex life?
Yes, vaginal rejuvenation surgery can improve your sex life by:

Can vaginal rejuvenation improve bladder & rectal function?
The muscles of the vagina play a crucial role in holding pelvic organs in place. When your vaginal muscles slacken after childbirth or with age, one of the potential consequences is a cystocele, or prolapsed bladder, where the bladder sinks into the vagina. Slack vaginal muscles can also lead to a prolapsed rectum, a condition where the rectum falls out of place and through the anus. These conditions are fairly common in women, and while a vaginoplasty will help to hold the rest of the pelvic organs in place, less invasive treatments may offer similar results. Please note that Dr. Judah does not go near the bladder during surgery. All of these conditions will be assessed by Dr. Judah, who is a board certified obstetrician and gynaecologist (OBGYN) since 1987.
What can't vaginal tightening do?
It is important to remember that vaginal rejuvenation surgery is not:

  • A cure-all for sexual dysfunction
  • A way to renew interest in sexual activity
  • A remedy for orgasmic inadequacy
  • A cure for bladder control issues that are not related to the vagina

Sexual dysfunction problems are in many ways linked to a person’s mental health rather than their anatomical structure. Bladder control issues that cannot be fixed with vaginoplasty need to be addressed with your general practitioner or another specialist. If you suffer from any of the above, please visit your general practitioner who can recommend a therapist or specialist that will address the underlying causes of these problems.

When can I have sex again?
You can resume sexual intercourse 6 weeks or so after surgery.
Can I have a baby if I get vaginoplasty?
The surgery does not affect your reproductive organs in any way, therefore you can still have a baby after surgery. However, it is strongly recommended that you finish having children before getting this surgery since your results will be reversed.
What are the risks?
Every surgery carries with it certain risks. If you are prone to reactions from anesthesia, have a bleeding disorder, or are a smoker, be sure to discuss these factors during your initial consultation with Dr. Judah. Other risks associated with vaginoplasty are:

  • Infection
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Hematoma – a solid swelling of clotted blood
  • Changes in sexual sensation
  • Dyspareunia – difficulty having intercourse

Rarer risks include anal injury and fistula (hole in rectal area and connection between vagina and rectum). You will have a recal exam after your surgery to detect this.

These risks are typically rare as long as you are healthy and overall, the incidence of complications from vaginoplasty is very low. In fact, one study showed that what patients perceived as complications were actually a breakdown in communication with their surgeons. Fortunately, your consultation with Dr. Judah will be thorough and complete. Together, you will discuss your expectations from surgery, the realities of what Dr. Judah can do, and specific pre- and post-operative instructions. If you effectively communicate your expectations, and if you precisely follow Dr. Judah’s instructions, the majority of risks and complications can be avoided. In mitigating these risks, it is easy to see that vaginal rejuvenation surgery is a safe, effective procedure to restore your confidence in your most womanly attribute.
